My Sessions: What to Expect

Rolfing® Sessions

Duration

Please allow 80 minutes for each session.

When You Arrive

You will have privacy to change into the attire you are most comfortable in – bathing suit, shorts, sports bra, boxers and I will provide a clean robe for you to wear before we start. Each session will begin with a brief discussion about how you are presently feeling in your body, any changes you may have noticed since the last session, and any new goals you may have.

During Your Session

We will then do assessments that relate to the session we will be doing that day – these may include standing, breathing, arm arcs, knee bends, and walking. Table work will follow, and you will be lying in different positions depending on the area we are working – you may be on your back, side, or face down. We will use pillows to ensure you are always comfortable and not straining in any way. At the end of each session, we will do gentle neck work and a pelvic lift, followed by back work specific to that session – this may be done with you sitting on the table or sitting on an adjustable wood bench. We conclude the session with standing and walking. I may also suggest some movements or exercises as homework.

Exercise Sessions

Duration

Please allow 60 minutes for each session.

When You Arrive

You will want to be wearing comfortable and loose or elastic pants or shorts and a tee shirt or tank top. I will provide water, a towel, and all the equipment and tools we will be using. Depending on what I will be doing that day I may make suggestions ahead of time as to what to wear and what to bring in terms of hydration and caloric energy. We will be working indoors for the most part, but at times I may suggest an outdoor workout and we will discuss this ahead of time.

During Your Session

Each session will begin with a brief discussion of how you are feeling and changes you have noticed since the last session. I will then do a variety of stretches with you to assess and benefit agility and flexibility. I will then guide you through a routine that is specific to your goals, movement patterns, and abilities. The work we do together is for the purpose of enhancing your physical capacity and body awareness – it is not intended to overwhelm your nervous system or create a challenge your body is not able to realize. Our exercise work together should empower you to feel more alive and natural in your physical body.
